Association for the equality of the disabled people of Timor
Nelson is making history - he is the first East Timorese person to qualify as a Prosthetist-Orthotist. He completed his 3-year training at the Cambodian School of Prosthetics and Orthotics in September 2006 and has now returned home to work in ASSERT.
ASSERT is an East Timorese NGO (non-governmental organisation) working for the rights of disabled people, established in partnership with UK NGO the Cambodia Trust. Together, ASSERT and The Cambodia Trust have established the Timor Loro Saâe Centre for Physical Rehabilitation (TLSPR) - Timor's first rehabilitation centre for disabled people. ASSERT is supported by the Government of East Timor, Ministry of Labour and Social Re-Insertion.
